Gregg,
Ichabod and Malinda Mattocks are my great x 3 grand parents.Yes, they are buried at the old Shrontz cemetery. They
were early settlers in the Kankakee river valley area. They are buried next to each other and have grave stones. I go to the
old grave yard when I visit IL.Somtimes I plant flowers on some
of the woman’s graves.I was born and raised in Kankakee co.
Cyrus my great x 2 grand father is also buried there. He has a
civil war veteran grave stone,he was in the 113th IL VOL.REG.
Cyrus also known as Rumsey, went off to the civil war with his
brothers Walter,Edwin and Monroe.Check out that web site
civilwar.nps.gov,Well anyway,Monroe never came home he fell
at Stones river.Emma, his new bride is buried at Shrontz’s.I put flowers on her grave to,it must have broken her heart.I’ll be buried at old Shrontz,s one day, with my veteran tomb stone.

Dear Jess:
Thanks for leaving a comment at my new website.
How great it is that you visit our ancestors at the Shrontz Cemetery.
I had heard that Ichabod was buried at Shrontz, but the published lists I have seen for that cemetery’s burials did not name him. They did, however, claim that both a Rumsey AND a Ramsey Mattocks were buried there. Have you seen stones for both? I was wondering if this was a child of Rumsey that I didn’t know about or if it was just a mistake.
Which child of Rumsey’s are you descended from? I have quite a bit of information on my great-grandfather Walter Mattocks, but have been unable to find out much about his brother William.
Do you know anything about Rumsey’s wife Hester? My uncle Carl Mattocks wrote that Rumsey and Hester were divorced and that Hester married second Lucien Jones. But I have found no documentation for this marriage or for any of Hester’s life after 1870.
I have the Civil War pension papers of Rumsey and his brother Walter, but have not yet scanned them into my computer. Let me know if you would like to have copies of these documents e-mailed to you. I might not be able to get around to it right away, but I am happy to send this information to you when I can.
I have another website, The Cooperage, a blog I just started where I comment on my genealogical progress. You may want to visit that site as well.
Thank you again for visiting my site.
Your cousin,
Gregg Mattocks
